Director of Business Development

We’re looking for a person who has an innate ability to find new opportunities for growth and development across a business and loves to implement new strategies and see results.

We are the online school for motion designers, with over 12,000 alumni and thousands of active students learning alongside nearly 100 instructors and teaching assistants. The mission of School of Motion is to break down the barriers to the industry, and we’ve helped thousands of people from all over the world achieve their goals. Now we want to expand even more and help others grow into successful artists.

Our office is 100% distributed, meaning you can work from anywhere so long as you have an internet connection. Right now, we need a Director of Business Development to take us to the next level.

In this position, you will be responsible for building out an enterprise sales team and process, working across product and marketing to create industry partnerships that benefit our students and marketing initiatives, and helping identify opportunities of growth within the Motion Design learning industry, and beyond. As you grow in the position, you’ll help shape the expansion of our business in different directions.

The right candidate will thrive in a creative and fast-paced environment, using their own internet creativity to solve problems. They need to be business savvy; it’s not just about knowing the difference between Gross and Net. You need to have experience developing complex processes and making them actionable. This position will report to the President of School of Motion.

You should:

  • Have experience building a sales team from the ground up
  • Have the ability to lead a team, manage projects, and meet deadlines
  • Have 10 - 15 years of experience in Business Development
  • Have experience with SaaS accounting methodologies
  • Be familiar with education products, online learning, subscription content models, and/or corporate training
  • Have a VERY strong attention to detail
  • Have experience working in a fully distributed team (a huge plus, but not required)
  • Have experience in a startup
  • Have problem-solving and analysis skills, combined with impeccable business judgment and team-enhancing capabilities
  • Be proactive in problem-solving
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members
  • Be familiar with digital tools such as Hubspot, Slack, Zoom, Airtable, and more. In general, you should be comfortable learning new apps.


You can expect to:

  • Develop an enterprise sales team and process
  • Develop and grow a partnership pipeline and account strategy, by prospecting, identifying, and qualifying business prospects and/or customers. 
  • Have a thorough understanding of a complex sales cycle to achieve consistent financial returns
  • Prepare accurate and timely sales forecasts
  • Develops annual sales plans for such products, promotional and advertising efforts, and other meaningful data
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (executive-level leadership, practice group leaders, and marketing/business development colleagues), in creating and executing a strategic business development plan designed to successfully achieve regional revenue goals.
  • Maintain CRM database of all business development activities
