School of Motion is looking for a Sr. Product Designer to design, iterate and polish our unique learning platform.

School of Motion is looking to add a Senior Product Designer to our growing team. This is a role in a fast-moving, tech-enabled company that will require you to work closely with our engineering team and other departments to imagine, design, and iterate on our custom-built learning management and marketing platforms. The right person for this role will be unafraid of being the first Product Designer in the history of this company. We’re a small team, and everyone wears a few hats, so expect some juggling.

You should have:
  • 3+ years experience working on a team as a product designer
  • Proven experience working within customer support, product, engineering, design, and marketing teams to understand the ideal solution path that satisfies all of the stakeholder requirements.
  • A collaborative approach to creating the product design roadmap
  • A passion for beautiful web apps, and a disdain for poor user experience
  • A genuine interest in taking part in the development cycle
  • Proficiency with issue and project tracking software (JIRA preferred)
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Pride in your problem-solving abilities

You can expect to:
  • Be the first full time/founding member of the product design team at School of Motion
  • Create beautiful and functional layouts for our app
  • Design a best in class learning management system that you can be proud of
  • Be in charge of your own day to day and help build out design operations and systems
  • Own the design system and continuously improve processes, minimizing design debt
  • Work on both the product side (LMS) and the Marketing side (checkout, landing pages)
  • Spend a lot of time on Slack finding the right gif (hard G) for every situation

Bonus experience:
  • Working on a remote team with employees and contractors located in different time zones across the country and world
  • Knowledge of the Advertising, Video and/or Motion Design spaces.

Our Tech:
  • Our tech stack is comprised of MongoDB, Express, React and Node.js
  • We use Figma and Milanote for design communication
  • We have a bunch of third party integrations (Paypal, Stripe, HubSpot, etc.)
  • We also use:
    • Git/GitHub for source code management
    • CircleCI for continuous integration
    • Heroku for deployment/hosting
    • MongoDB Atlas for DB hosting
    • Cloudflare for our web infrastructure and security
    • Amazon S3 for file storage
    • JIRA for task management
    • Confluence for our internal wiki

Schedule:
We have a flexible work schedule at School of Motion — the company runs on a standard Monday through Friday/ET schedule; however, employees are not required to be at their workstation from 9 to 5 each and every day. We ask that our employees maintain a work schedule appropriate for themselves and their respective teams, as well as take time off as needed. We believe that regular communication, effective workflows, and setting and reliably hitting goals are key to non-conventional work hours.

Application Requirements:
  • Share a link to your online portfolio.
  • Share a link to a piece of work you designed recently and give us a short explanation of some of the challenges you solved on that project.
  • Include a link to your LinkedIn profile
  • Write a short paragraph explaining why you’d be the best fit for School of Motion
  • Include some information on something you’re currently excited about learning, and how you’re learning it.

Note: We welcome video cover letters, in lieu of a written letter.
